The SafariAtlas

Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of The Safari Atlas. The single most important thing in them is this: we are a publisher, not a travel company. We research and write safari guidance; we do not sell, operate or arrange safaris, and we are not party to any booking you make. Everything else follows from that.

The short version

Use the site, quote us with credit, and enjoy it. Our guidance is careful and independently researched, but it is general information, not professional advice, and prices, fees and rules change constantly – always confirm the current position with your operator or the relevant authority before you book or travel.

When you book anything, your contract is with that operator or supplier, not with us. We are not responsible for their service, pricing, cancellations or conduct.

Who we are

The Safari Atlas is published by The Safari Atlas, registered at our registered business address. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that company; “you” means anyone using the site.

By using this site you accept these terms. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the site.

What this site is

The Safari Atlas publishes independent editorial guidance about safari travel: destinations, seasons, costs, accommodation and booking practice. We research our material carefully, check fees against official park-authority sources, and set out our standards in our Editorial principles.

What we are not:

  • Not a tour operator or travel agent. We do not sell, operate, package or arrange safaris, flights, accommodation or activities.
  • Not your adviser. Our content is general information for a wide audience. It is not personalised travel, financial, medical, legal or insurance advice, and it does not take account of your particular circumstances.
  • Not a guarantee of wildlife, weather or conditions. Nature is not a product. We never promise sightings, migration timings, river crossings or clear skies – we describe likelihoods based on typical patterns.

For health, vaccination and malaria matters in particular, our guides are a starting point only: consult a qualified medical professional or travel clinic before you travel.

Accuracy of information

We work hard to be accurate, and we correct mistakes openly under our Corrections policy. But safari information dates quickly. Park fees are revised, regulations change, camps change hands or close, seasons shift with the rains, and operators change their pricing and terms without notice.

So we publish our content on this basis:

  • Prices, fees and cost ranges are for planning only, correct to the best of our knowledge on the date shown on the page.
  • Park and conservation fees are checked against the relevant authority’s published schedule at the time of writing and may since have changed.
  • Timings for natural events – calving, river crossings, floods, rains – are typical patterns, not fixed dates, and vary year to year.
  • Rules on activities such as walking safaris, night drives and off-road driving are set by each park or reserve and can change.

Always confirm the current position with your operator, the park authority, your insurer and the relevant government sources before you book or travel. We do not warrant that the site is accurate, complete or up to date, or that it will be available uninterrupted.

Third parties and bookings

Your contract is with them, not us. If you book a safari, flight, camp or activity – whether or not you reached it through this site – that contract is between you and that operator or supplier, on their terms. We are not a party to it.

We are not responsible for their pricing, availability, inclusions, cancellations, refunds, safety, conduct or performance, and any dispute about a booking is between you and them.

The site links to third-party websites, including operators, park authorities and affiliate partners. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy, security or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything a third party does.

Where we describe an operator as vetted or reputable, that reflects our editorial judgement at the time of writing based on the checks described in our guides. It is not a guarantee of their solvency, conduct or performance, and you should still do your own due diligence – including confirming what a quote includes and understanding deposit and cancellation terms – before paying anyone.

Commercial links and enquiries

Some links on this site are affiliate links, and we may be paid when readers submit safari enquiries that we pass to operators. This is explained in full in our Affiliate disclosure, and how we handle enquiry data is set out in our Privacy policy.

Submitting an enquiry does not create a booking, a reservation, a hold on availability or any contract with us or with any operator. It is a request for information. Any subsequent contract is between you and the operator.

Acceptable use

You may read, share and link to our content freely. You may not:

  • copy, republish or redistribute substantial parts of the site without our written permission;
  • scrape, harvest or systematically extract content, including for training commercial models, except as expressly permitted by us or by law;
  • use the site unlawfully, or in a way that damages it, disrupts it or interferes with anyone else’s use of it;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any connected system;
  • submit false, misleading or third-party personal information through our forms, or use them to send spam.

We may suspend or block access if we reasonably believe these terms are being breached.

Intellectual property

All content on this site – text, graphics, infographics, layout, design and the name and branding of The Safari Atlas – is owned by us or licensed to us and is protected by copyright and other rights.

Quoting us: you may quote short extracts for review, commentary, news reporting or teaching, provided you credit The Safari Atlas and, online, link to the page you are quoting. Anything more – reproducing whole guides, republishing our graphics, or using our content commercially – needs our written permission. Ask us; we’re reasonable.

If you send us feedback, corrections or suggestions, you agree we may use them to improve the site without obligation to you, though we will happily credit a reader who spots a significant error.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • the site and its content are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied;
  • we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your reliance on the site’s content – including decisions about destinations, dates, budgets, operators or bookings;
  • we are not liable for the acts, omissions, service or insolvency of any operator, supplier or other third party;
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, opportunity, data or enjoyment.

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance, including cancellation and medical cover, for any safari – it is the protection that matters most, and it is not something this site can substitute for.

General terms

Changes. We may update these terms as the site or the law changes. The version published here, with the date at the top, is the one that applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

No waiver. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, that doesn’t mean we’ve given up the right to do so later.

Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of applicable law, and disputes will be subject to the courts of courts of competent jurisdiction – without affecting any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence.
